Purpose and Definitions:

Every year many questions arise as to the duties, responsibilities and assignments that the class or club advisors should consider. There are some clear-cut answers; however, most are based on the tenets of good teaching and preparing students to be responsible. Advising and guiding students through problem solving issues is much more challenging than giving them the right answers. The following outlines some procedural guidelines that will hopefully take the guesswork out of advising.

 Qualifications:

• Employment at Eastpointe High School preferred
• Experience in leading and/or supervising extra-curricular activities is preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively and positively with students, parents, and staff

 Expectations:

Be in attendance and supervise all meetings, work session, club-sponsored events.

• Promote program to attract new speech team members.
• Selects, organizes, and publishes a schedule of competition.
• Provides individual and group instruction in preparation for competition.
• Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in forensic activities.
• Organizes and implements debate trips, including transportation, in accordance with district policy. Ensures the safety of students by adhering to both team and general school rules and regulations while on district premises or attending outside events.
• Maintains the integrity and reputation of ECS in the forensic community by teaching and modeling integrity, commitment, and diligence.
• Meets with building principal to review goals for the speech and debate team.
• Submits to building principal, upon request, a year-end report including the following:

o   List of participants

o   Calendar of events and summary of activities

o   Awards and honors received

o   Recommendations for improvements

Per EFE Collective Bargaining Agreement

• Supplemental contracts will be awarded on the basis of qualifications and experience.  Bargaining unit members will be given preference when qualifications are the same.  
• Compensation for this Supplemental Contract is 4.5% of your salary.
