Job Title: Summer Discovery Program Social Worker  

School: (2) Positions to service all K-8 Students 

Position Description: Under the direction of the Athletics and Activities Director the  Summer Discovery Social Workers will address the social-emotional, non-academic needs of  students and families. 

Minimum Job Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree from an approved graduate school of Social Work Program  ? OR full approval as a School Social Worker 
  • Michigan Teacher Certification - highly qualified 
  • Prior experience preferred 

Our Summer Discovery Social Worker will skillfully demonstrate: 

  • Strong desire and ability to achieve outstanding student and family results in a short  amount of time 
  • Ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students and families in order  to support and build structures for families to be successful 
  • Ability to motivate students and families, influence their behaviors, and improve the  quality of their home lives this summer 
  • Development of organized routines, communicate clear expectations, and grow a  positive home/school culture 
  • Building a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and  accountability 
  • Accurate maintenance of program records and reports, including the logs of all  Social Workers 
  • Social Worker will track data of services that impact student learning
    2? Creatively motivate children to engage in learning and home life participation ? Support and inspire students to engage in learning 
  • Resolve barriers for families for students to be successful  

Selection Committee: All staff will be interviewed for the available positions. Social  Workers will be selected based on fit, ability to improve student academic achievement,  and fit to the Summer School program. Preference will be given to Social Workers available for all program dates and times.  

Evaluated By: Athletics and Activities Director 

 

Program Dates: 

July 8 - August 8 - 7:30 to 4:00 with additional PD on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Training will take place on July 1, 2, 3, and 5.

*Additional hour of preparation paid daily, additional training TBD 

 

Salary Data: Paid through Summer Discovery Grant Funding; $40 per hour 

Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace the  general education program of the school district.
