Job Title: Paraprofessional
Position Description: GSRP Associate Teacher for the Early Childhood Learning Center
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Child Development Associate(CDA) credential or/
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or/
- One class in Child Development with a written plan to complete the CDA or Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development
Essential Functions:
- Must provide upon employment or be willing to obtain within 30 days a physical examination completed within the last six months, a TB test, and obtain/pass other required background checks required by Michigan Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Division and Eastpointe Community Schools
- Regular attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record
- Knowledge and experience with the basic principles of Early Childhood Development
- Assist in providing and maintaining a safe and healthy developmentally appropriate environment;
- Experience working with preschoolers and at least one year teaching experience preferred
- Possess skills, attributes and characteristics conducive and suitable for dealing with children
- Excellent communication skills that focus on positive and professional communication with children, parents, and staff members
- Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of families with culturally diverse backgrounds
- Able to learn Early Childhood program requirements to effectively communicate with prospective families
- Assist children with classroom and personal care activities as needed
- Engage in positive adult child interaction throughout the daily routine
- Working knowledge of The Creative Curriculum for Preschool curriculum
- Assist the teacher in taking anecdotal notes daily
- Assist the teacher in Support children as they prepare for lunch, i.e. preparing serving containers, setting the table, cleaning up after meals, etc.
- Support children during family style meals by engaging in conversation and sampling foods
- Assist the teacher in planning and facilitating daily activities of the children
- Attend planned home visits and parent teacher conferences
- Participate in required professional development hours
- Participate in staff and center meetings
- Perform other duties as required
Our early childhood associate teacher/ paraprofessional will skillfully demonstrate:
- Passion for reading and cultivating literacy in students
- Ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students in order to exert academic press and influence
- Willingness to leverage the student support network to ensure that students’ social, emotional, nutritional and health needs are addressed
- Ability to motivate students, promote their self-esteem, and influence their behaviors
- Aptitude to discuss subject specific content instruction and the drive to try out new ideas to improve student learning
- Develop organized routines, communicate clear expectations, and contribute to a positive school culture
- Contribute to a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability
- Ability to seek out knowledgeable peers, coaches or administrators for instructional support in the never ending quest to deliver the vision of high quality subject-specific instruction to increase achievement of highest risk students
- Accurately maintain program records as assigned and within due dates
- Effective communication with administration, teachers, staff, parents, and students relative to programs.
